Town of Millington, Maryland
Comprehensive Plan
(September 2008) The Planning Commission of the Town of Millington is in the
process of updating the Town's Comprehensive Plan. The Comprehensive Plan
is intended to serve as a blueprint for the Town's future, and will contain
goals and objectives that address quality of life, natural resources, land
use and community services. In addition, the Comprehensive Plan will
identify specific planning recommendations and implementation strategies
which Millington residents, businesses, property owners and organizations
can initiate to help achieve their future vision for the community.
The process to complete the Plan will take between eight and nine months and
will include the preparation of traditional elements required for a
municipal comprehensive plan as per Article 66B of the Annotated Code of
Maryland., as well as the preparation of a Municipal Growth Element and
Water Resources Element, as required by Maryland House Bill 1141.
Strategies for updating the Town’s development codes (zoning ordinance and
subdivision regulations) will be explored as well.
The planning process will evolve from input from the public, the Millington
Planning Commission, the Mayor and Town Council of Millington, and Town
staff. PJA will prepare appropriate materials to frame policy issues., and
will meet with the Planning Commission and others to exchange information
and explore the dimensions of local growth management issues and the range
of responses. The objective of the early part of the planning process is to
focus discussion and build consensus concerning public policies, strategies,
and implementation of the Comprehensive Plan.
The next key stage in the planning process will be a public information
meeting to be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at the
Millington Fire Hall on Hurtt Avenue. Citizens may use this meeting to
comment on the Plan's findings and recommendations. To view draft chapters
