Garrett County, Maryland: Heritage Area Management Plan

 

Peter Johnston & Associates (PJA) is preparing a "Heritage Area Management Plan" for Garrett County, Maryland.  The project

is being funded by the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce and the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority.  The purpose of the

project is to adopt a useful plan that enhances heritage preservation, tourism, and compatible economic development initiatives

in the County.  Following Plan adoption, Garrett County will seek State "Certification" for the Heritage Area from the Maryland

The Heritage Area Management Plan is divided into three parts, Volume 1, Volume 2, and the Technical Appendices.  Volume 1: Defining

the Garrett County Heritage Area provides a detailed analysis of the Maryland Heritage Areas Program, Garrett County's heritage resources,

growth and development trends in the County, and the current tourism economy.  It also describes heritage area boundaries, the role of

preservation in the Heritage Area (stewardship), and how to interpret Garrett's heritage resources to enhance tourism.
