Schuylkill River Heritage Area Towns & Tours Initiative

The Schuylkill River National and State Heritage Area (SRHA) has for many years provided the basis for utilizing heritage resources to secure economic and quality of life benefits for a unique region with a special history and culture in the State of Pennsylvania.  Heritage resources are the historical, cultural, architectural, archaeological, and natural assets and attractions that provide the Schuylkill River region and communities with its identity.  They are not only valuable remnants of the past, but can also provide for a profitable future.  The Heritage Towns & Tours Initiative (HT&T) is a concerted and coordinated effort at all levels, including grassroots citizen groups, regional heritage organizations, and state and federal agencies to fully realize the heritage area's potential and to maximize its benefits.

To assist communities in the region, the SRHA has developed the Schuylkill River Cultural Heritage Tourism Assistance Program and the Schuylkill River Heritage Area Towns & Tours Toolkit.  This provides a process for: 1) Achieving official designation by the SRHA as a heritage town; and 2) Turning your community into a worthwhile heritage destination.  The purpose is to benefit local economies, and enhance the quality of life in the respective communities in the SRHA that participate in this Initiative.
